The program provides support in the areas of agroforestry, land ownership and community organizing. Community organizing is used to mobilize groups to secure stewardship contracts, promote agroforestry and soil and water conservation, and build local institutions. The ISFP focuses on improving farmers` existing practices, not introducing new practices, except in situations where this may be necessary. Participatory strategies are used to collect data, diagnose field situations and monitor technical problems. Farm visits and training develop farmers` skills in agroforestry and organization. Community leaders are ready to take responsibility for further development after the end of the project, which is tentatively set at five years. .
